La Traviata

Teatro La Fenice, Venice

Late summer Italian charm and style in beautiful places!

Madama Butterfly by Puccini, one of the most moving opera theatre experiences, at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. It is not hard to imagine 18th century Casanova and company masked and cloaked gliding to the opera in a gondola! And we must experience Vivaldi’s music in his own city in a Concert by baroque specialists. How exciting as are visits to places of music and opera interest and the New Zealand exhibition at the Venice Biennale.

In Milan’s magnificent Teatro alla Scala, that great mecca for all opera lovers, see a performance of Handel’s Tamerlano with Placido Domingo returning to the tenor role as the Ottoman Emperor Bajazet along with Bejun Kehta, top counter-tenor making his La Scala debut. With La Scala’s Baroque ensembleconducted by esteemed specialist Diego Fasolis, we are in for a real treat!

Visit La Scala’s museum with portraits of composers and singers and other memorabilia and walk in Milan in the footsteps of Maestro Verdi and Maria Callas to the places associated with them and their contemporaries.

The annual Verdi Festival in Parma, a rich provincial city, entices us with Jerusalem in the grand Teatro Regio, an opportunity to see this rarely performed early Verdi opera as well as his most popular opera La Traviata in the charming Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Busseto. We visit the heart of Verdi’s countryside – his humble birthplace and the villa where he composed his great works.

A truly unique experience and favourite place for Patricia’s Opera Tours is our 18th century Villa in Tuscany perfectly set amidst vines and olive groves. Aspiring New Zealand opera singers (who study while we explore) entertain us in a Gala Concert on 5 or 6 October in the Villa's grand chandeliered Salone. We visit Tuscan gardens and villas, vineyards and villages. Invite your friends to attend the Concert.
